“Alicia's photography always reminds me of the writings of Mary Oliver: ‘What I want in my life is to be willing to be dazzled. I want to believe I am looking into the white fire of a great mystery. And I do.’”

The Artist

Hi there! My name is Alicia-Marie Lavoie. Nature’s sacredness has always shaped my calling as an artist. In Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer describes the land as “everything”: the origins of identity, the home of nonhuman kinfolk, the source of all. Even if our ancestors originated elsewhere, our actions and seasonal stories still reflect our relationship with (and our stewardship of) the web of life. And in a society that emphasizes technology over a balance with nature, we are doomed to forget our roots; hence, the environment is just as important as the people and wildlife in my pictures. So gather by my camera and kindle wisdom at nature’s threshold.
